Insomnia? Let acupuncture help you get a good nights sleep!
Do you have trouble falling asleep?
Do you commonly wake up during the night?
Do you wake up in the morning feeling unrefreshed?
Acupuncture may be worth trying if you are suffering from any of the above.
I know you may not think that going somewhere to get needles put in your body is relaxing, but, I promise that it is.
Acupuncture awakens the body’s innate healing response and is able to reactivate neuro-hormonal pathways which in this case, can help you get a better quality sleep.
Generally, it is recommend that you should get about 8 hours of sleep per night. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, your body does not have enough time to detox and recover from the day, or restore the body to function optimally the next day.
When we are sleep deprived or the quality of our sleep is low, it can affect the way the rest of our body functions. Our digestive system, appetite control, period and hormones, just to name a few, can call be affected. Increased cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and anxiety like symptoms can also come about.
So this is where acupuncture steps in…..
The insertion of these little needles is actually able to help calm down the nervous system and encourage the body back to a place of homeostasis.
The main ways acupuncture can help with sleep quality is:
- calm the nervous system
- reduce stress (reduce cortisol levels)
- give the mind a chance to quieten down
- increase endorphin production (happy hormones)
- regulate hormones and neurotransmitters throughout the body
Along with acupuncture, we combine other techniques in our treatments to help calm the nervous system to encourage a peaceful and restful sleep; essential oils that are known to calm the mind, belly breathing and meditation techniques to encourage the reduction of cortisol in the body, massage and crystals.
Please feel free to send us an email if you would like more information or to book your appointment for a calm and quiet sleep.
