From around 36 weeks of pregnancy, we offer birth preparation acupuncture. A series of sessions designed to support your body and mind as you move toward labour. It’s a beautiful way to slow down in these final weeks, tune in to your body, and feel more prepared for what’s ahead.
In Chinese Medicine, the final weeks of pregnancy are seen as a time of transition — the body is moving from a state of “holding” the pregnancy toward one of “opening” and release. Traditionally, treatment in this period focuses on supporting the smooth and downward movement of Qi, nourishing Blood, and helping the body feel soft, open and ready.
Specific acupuncture points are traditionally used at this stage to help encourage this natural downward movement, support the pelvis and cervix in softening, and help the body conserve energy for the work ahead. This is gentle, supportive care, working with your body’s own process, not overriding it.
From a Western point of view, birth preparation acupuncture is a wonderful way to support the nervous system in the lead-up to birth. Regular treatment can help you feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to rest — which matters for both you and your baby in these final weeks.
