Cosmetic Acupuncture – what’s it all about?

Cosmetic Acupuncture – what’s it all about?

Hands up if you would like to try a natural way to help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, scarring and redness on that already beautiful face of yours!
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a relatively new form of acupuncture, which involves the insertion of teeny tiny needles into the skin on and around the face.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The insertion of these little needles encourages blood flow to the area as well as increasing collagen build up.
Blood flow is important to keep the skin looking supple and glowing because it moves oxygen and cells via the skin as well as helping clear our discoloration and toxins.

Collagen is VERY important in this process as well because it is one of the main proteins that make up our skin tissue. By inserting these teeny tiny needles, it creates a little wound underneath the skin so our body sends more blood and more cells and proteins such as collagen to the area to help with wound healing. By doing this, we are helping the skin look clearer, brighter, more taut and plump.

WHAT ELSE CAN I EXPECT?
Cosmetic Acupuncture is only completed by a qualified Acupuncturist with Chinese Medicine training, so often we will look at the problem areas of your face which may relate to certain organs or located on a meridian and help with any other imbalances that may be occurring in your body.
After the insertion of often around 20-40 needles in your face, some needles may be inserted along meridians on other parts of your body to help with digestive concerns, sleeping issues or even menstrual support if it is required.
A facial massage with Rosehip oil will end the treatment to help with the support of blood flow and collagen production.
Rosehip oil is rich is antioxidants, Vitamin E, Vitamin C and omega fatty acids which benefit the skin by helping damaged skin cells, increasing hydration and helps leave the skin look clear and bright.
Also expect to be sent home with a micro dermal roller and dermal hammer to help increase the benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture even more, but we will talk a bit more about how this works in our next blog.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
We suggest that to get the best benefits possible, to come in twice per week for the first 6 weeks, then once per week until 12 weeks. Maintenance treatments are recommended once every 6-8 weeks.

HOW SOON SHOULD I EXPECT RESULTS?
You will definitely notice a difference after the first treatment; your face is brighter and lifted and skin is fresher. But the real results take place 4 to 6 weeks after the body’s natural cell renewal process and collagen production takes place and new skin cells come through.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
With the insertion of these teeny tiny needles into the skin, there can sometimes be very small amounts of bleeding and bruising from small blood vessels under the skin. If this occurs, we will guide you through ways to help, but if this does happen, don’t stress, it will only last a few days, and is all part of the skin cell regeneration.
Other than that, expect to feel more confident in your own skin after your course of treatments!

With gratitude,

Nicole (Acupuncturist)
